A gorgeous, warm day – hot in the sun, in fact. Went to a lecture on the QE2 -“Legacy of a Legend” with Peter Quartermaine – mainly about the architect and designer, James Gardner and his design contributions, his difficulties with an already stultified Cunard Line and a British Shipbuilding industry living in the 19th century. It was fascinating.
After that, hamburger, fries and onion rings on the Lido deck with Michelle and Margaret. Then a nap, laundry and then time for our big night.
We had cocktails in Jacques and Jacqueline’s cabin – we had champagne, gorgeous Loire Valley wines which Jacques brought with him, whisky and hors d’oeuvres which we had collected from the Lido earlier in the day: shrimp, smoked salmon, melon and Parma ham, cheeses, olives you name it.
Then on to Indian dinner in the Lido. Potu had aranged a long table for 13 – and on the starboard i.e., west side of the ship. Gorgeous skies again. We had a wonderful time. The meal was elegant and delicious; the décor, table settings and waiter’s garb – all Indian.
After dinner, dancing in the Lido and photos of the first sunset in 7 days. We are not sure what time the sun will rise. Jacques in going to stay up and tell us tomorrow. If it doesn’t rise, according to local tradition, we’ll have to sacrifice a virgin. Hahah. Fat chance finding one on this ship.
And now, a relatively (12:30 am- hahahah) early night….long tour tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteThis morning was finally dry. We went to the Coast Guard station about 9:30 and boarded a tender that took us for a 40 minute ride out to the Destroyer, U.S.S. Bulkeley. It is a huge hulk of a vessel and was anchored well to the south of Hog Island. We had a very informative tour which Bill absolutely loved. I did too, though I'm not as into the U.S. Navy as is Bill. We returned to shore about 12:30 pm and after a quick luncheon at Pizza Wave and last minute shoppage at Stop and Shop, we returned home. The traffic swirling about town is humongous. It took us about a half hour to get home from S & S! Later this afternoon and early this evening we experienced very volital thunderstorms with intense downpours. It is now drying out and we're hoping that the fog will not roll in and ruin the fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 this evening. We plan to watch it from upstairs while imbibing a little grappa and Gran Gala. Tomorrow we hope to bike into town about 10:30 when the traffic on the bike path should ease up. After lunch, we'll head home and get things set up for a nice 4th of July cookout under our tree! John and Ann will be joining us as well as our old neighbors from Barrington. Wish you were here to celbrate with us. Remember the great fun we had last year entertaining those sailors from the U.S.S. Whibdey Island!
Talked with Kris and Alan today; they will be making a return engagement to Windridge Lane...probably late July. Kris wants to go birding up in the Laurentians and they will use our place as a stopover going and returning. Your photos from the Vic are wonderful. As usual, you've fallen in with a nice group of travellers. What a surprise. Continue to enjoy. Hope you like Bergen. It's home to some of my Dad's family. Beau is positively himself. Ciao for now.
