After coffee at Agnes – Ross’ haunt – Ross took us, Phyllis, Norma and me, to the Sky Tower where we checked our suitcases and made reservations for lunch a the Orbit, the revolving restaurant atop the Tower, the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. While waiting to go to lunch, we popped into the Casino. Norma and Phyllis played the pokies – just $5NZ each – and Norma won $30NZ. We went up to the observation level in glass elevators – cool. Every so many feet, there are glass floors on this level – pretty cool. Norma decided to spent the money on a photo of the 3 of us in the fist of King Kong clinging to the Sky Tower. We pretended to be terrified. Photo is a hoot.
During our delightful lunch, revolving slowly above Auckland, we watched people being hooked up to walk around the outside of the observation level on a metal walkway – attached to the inner railing, but NO outer railing. Also, we watched bungee jumpers flying past the window right in front of us. This truly is the country of extreme sports.
After lunch, we took the bus up to Paihia in the Bay of Islands. There is no train and the bus trip takes about 3 hours, which passed very pleasantly. The scenery was lovely and we chatted all the way. We made a pit stop about half way. Norma left us in Whangarei, after about 2 hours. Norman, Ross’ father met us. We were a bit late, so we had dinner as soon as we arrived. Their house is on a hill with a million-dollar view of the Bay, an area listed in many books as one of the 1000 places to see before you die. So that’s one less on the “Bucket List”. I am also posting a photo of Ross' house with the lights on - I couldn't get a photo that night - too dark - had to wait to take them a dusk.
